Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt Step 1

Well, I decided to do the mystery quilt. I have never done one previously and a friend at quilt guild made an announcement. When I saw the colors, I considered it and finally decided to go for it. I haven't done a Bonnie Hunter quilt either, but I can see that we have a lot in common. I LOVE scrappy quilts. So here goes.

First, here is my fabric for the mystery quilt.

Next are the squares and half square triangles. Since the HSTs needed to be 2 1/2 inches finished, I started with 3 inch squares, drew a line down the center and sewed 1/4 inch on either side of the line. Then I cut each in half along the line and pressed them open toward the aqua side. Finally I trimmed each with my handy dandy Tucker Trimmer ruler which I LOVE!

Next was to cut the black and yellow squares and finally sew them together. One block done - only 99 more to go!
